Narrative
MEMPHIS, TN – Two people died late Tuesday night in a fiery crash involving a semi-truck along the interstate in Memphis.
The accident occurred around 11 p.m. on the westbound side of I-40 near the exit for North Watkins Street, which is just west of Rodney Baber Park.
Police say that the driver of an 18-wheeler lost control of the truck while navigating a curve on the interstate. The semi left the roadway, hit a barrier, and ignited.
Authorities declared both the truck driver and the passenger deceased from their injuries. The names of the victims have not yet been released to the public.
There’s no word at this time regarding the condition of the driver at the time of the crash.
Officials closed I-40 westbound until the early hours of the morning Wednesday while emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
A full investigation is underway.
