Narrative

ATHENS, TN – A motorcyclist died Wednesday from injuries sustained in two back-to-back collisions in central McMinn County.

The initial crash occurred around 5 a.m. at the intersection of Redfern Road and Congress Parkway on the north side of Athens, which is halfway between Chattanooga and Knoxville.

Police say that a white SUV struck a motorcyclist in the roadway after an initial crash involving a motorcycle and another vehicle.

After hitting the motorcyclist, the SUV driver fled the scene of the accident without stopping to render aid or to speak with authorities.

The biker died at the scene of the crash. Officials haven’t yet released the victim’s name to the public.

Athens Police have described the suspect as a white woman.
