Narrative

CARTER CO., TN – A wrong-way crash in western Carter County killed two people and injured another Thursday evening.

The accident happened around 7 p.m. on Mary Patton Highway, or TN-362, near Big Springs Road. This is just north of the Haunted Forest of Elizabethton.

Police say that a northbound 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche entered the southbound lane of the highway and collided head-on with a southbound 2016 Nissan Versa. The Nissan rolled after leaving the roadway.

A passenger in the Nissan, identified as 53-year-old Christina Presnell, sustained fatal injuries, as did the driver of the Chevy, identified as 47-year-old Thomas Whittington of North Carolina.

Medics transported the driver of the Nissan to area hospital with unknown injuries.

A full investigation is underway.
